Raytheon HTMS staff members have extensive roadside and back-office experience in installation. We have installed over 210 free flow toll sites, and numerous lane based sites. Raytheon provides worldwide turnkey ETC installation services using HTMS specialist and trained local labor services. Due to the interdependencies between the construction work and the ETC system, the HTMS team always takes a flexible approach to installation while still adhering to the highest quality and safety standards.

HTMS has developed, and continues to perfect, special installation tools and methods that permit the fine tuning of each site for as-built conditions. On every project HTMS has performed, customers have commended our roadside installation team members for their work ethic, professionalism, adherence to safety, quality workmanship, and installation skills.

Consistent with Raytheon’s background in military equipment provisioning, HTMS always strives to produce high quality, reliable products designed for low maintenance and rapid component replacement. As the first company to operate and maintain a fully automated electronic toll road, Raytheon has extensive maintenance experience and has been involved in toll collection system projects in a variety of climatic extremes. We have analyzed failures and updated equipment and procedures to reduce future failures.

Raytheon has incorporated all this experience and knowledge into its second and third generation tolling products to increase equipment life while reducing the need for maintenance, troubleshooting and parts replacement. Raytheon products that help reduce maintenance costs include:

Specialized remote diagnostic and maintenance software that can be run while an ETC site is in normal operation

Refined mounting hardware and indexed equipment assemblies for fail-safe and quick equipment removal and replacement

Patented camera housings that reduce build-up of dirt on the faceplate and provide controlled environmental conditions to ensure the longevity of camera electronics

Depot-level calibration procedures to align vehicle detectors with mounting hardware prior to installation

Designs for performing safe, routine and emergency maintenance tasks over a live road without traffic interruption or lane closures

A special climate controlled roadside electronics cabinet designed specifically for ETC equipment protection, rapid troubleshooting, and easy parts replacement

The Raytheon team understands that the job has entered a new phase once the road has opened for tolling. The operator’s primary focus needs to be on revenue generation, not maintenance of the toll system. Raytheon offers turnkey in-country maintenance services or customer training.

Raytheon recognizes that effective training is essential for the road operator to properly use the new tolling system and has developed a core set of training modules for the system segments. For each segment, courses can be taught that directly relate to the student’s job classification and the type of work he or she will be performing during tolling operations. Using this approach, tolling personnel can be sufficiently trained to perform the tasks at hand while the operator has the flexibility to administer future training as needed.

During the design, integration and implementation of a new tolling system, it is essential to maintain close collaboration between the system developer and the road operator. Prior to the start of actual toll service, operations personnel have access to the HTMS Software Development Lab and the test site in Fullerton, California. Early exposure to the system increases the operations team members’ overall knowledge, makes them better students, and allows for more in-depth training.
