History

Raytheon Vision Systems is the world wide leader in innovation, manufacturing, production, and delivering state of the art detective assemblies to a wide variety of military and commercial customers around the world. Raytheon, having the foresight to recognize the need for an infrared capability, acquired Amber Engineering in 1992, a company that had been in existence since 1983, but had produced innovative solutions to the customer community in detectors and cameras. This included the Radiance camera, a state of the art IR commercial camera. In 1998, Raytheon purchased the Santa Barbara Research Center (S.B.R.C.) and the infrared capabilities of Texas Instruments (T.I.). Both S.B.R.C. and T.I were the world leaders in high rate production programs such as the family of Common Modules used on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle and the M-1 Main battle tank. These 30 year old products are still being used today. Over 100,000 units were built and delivered by both companies. The company today has delivered over 30,000 Thermal Weapon Sights and 25,000 detective assemblies for the Javelin program. Raytheon Vision Systems is the world leader in Space based sensors starting with the Multispectral Scanner, developed in the late seventies, NASA's first earth resource sensor viewing the earth from 400 miles altitude.

With such a storied history, Raytheon personnel continue to lead the marketplace in the Infrared and Visible world, just like the people before them.
