The Association for Enterprise Information (AFEI) recently awarded the FBI’s National Data Exchange (N-DEx) program team with the Excellence in Enterprise Integration Award.
As an affiliate of the National Defense Industrial Association, AFEI promotes enterprise integration for industries and governments worldwide. Their award recognizes N-DEx for excellence and innovation in solutions that have profound consequences for improving the performance and value of the enterprise.
The N-DEx team was presented the award by AFEI’s President David Chesebrough at a ceremony on Oct. 14, 2011. The ceremony was held at the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) division in Clarksburg, W. Va.
Raytheon and FBI: Enhancing the Nation’s Ability to Fight Crime and Terrorism
As a trusted partner since 2007, Raytheon has worked together with the FBI CJIS to jointly develop N-DEx. This first-of-its-kind powerful investigative system ties existing disparate federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement databases on a national level.
FBI CJIS Assistant Director David Cuthbertson accepted the award from AFEI on behalf of the N-DEx team. He shared with the audience that in a previous assignment he had the responsibility for N-DEx, but he left to become the agent in charge of the FBI’s division in El Paso, Texas.
“During my time in El Paso, leading operation efforts in both the criminal and national security arenas, my conviction that a program like N-DEx was absolutely essential to our public safety and homeland defense efforts was reinforced tremendously,” he told the audience at the ceremony. “At the same time, the team here at CJIS, to include our partner and prime contractor Raytheon, continued to diligently labor to deliver a fully operational system based on the feedback from a whole host of subject matter experts.”
Fully deployed in the spring of 2011, N-DEx allows 200,000 investigators in more than 18,000 local, state, tribal and federal criminal justice agencies to share information on criminal cases. Through N-DEx, law enforcement has access to rich, criminal justice life cycle data from across jurisdictions — all from one secure website. They can now search, link, analyze and share criminal justice data, as well as collaborate, on a national basis in ways never before possible.
Commenting on the award at the ceremony, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Raytheon Mission Operations Solutions Todd Probert stated, “The combined teams from both Raytheon and the FBI truly deserve this award for developing such a valuable, groundbreaking resource for criminal justice agencies nationwide.” He added, “N-DEx has revolutionized the way the criminal justice community collaborates -- resulting in extraordinary contributions to the safety of our country.”
